Summer Vacation Travel Tips

Vacationing while on the Dukan diet is simple, it just takes a little planning and discipline. Whether you are headed to Europe or a beach in the Caribbean, you can avoid putting on those dreaded vacation pounds by packing some healthy foods, workout gear and a positive attitude! Here are some tips to help you lose weight on vacation:

1. When travelling by plane, pack a Dukan friendly meal to enjoy on board (especially if it’s a long flight). Plane food is processed and awful for you. It tends to be packed with salt, so you will feel bloated by the time you land.

2. When dining in an airport, it’s worth the time to search out healthy foods. Look for salads with lean protein (PV days) or plain hard boiled eggs. If you’re in Consolidation you can always pick up an apple as well.  For more convenience, toss some Dukan Diet Oat Bran Bars and Dukan Diet Cookies into your bags!

3. As the demand for healthy eating and exercising rises, hotels are responding to their guests. There’s no reason not to work out or eat right just because you’re away from home. Calling ahead and working with the concierge will help you find all the things you need to make your vacation a healthy one: When checking in, refuse the mini-bar key. Not only are the prices outrageous, but the choices are not the healthiest. Instead, find a nearby health food store or grocery store and stock up on good-for-you Dukan friendly snacks. If your room has a fridge or microwave, you can also get enough foods to prepare healthy meals. If a coffee maker is all your room provides, make hot oat bran cereal with the hot water.

4. Summer is perfect for swimming!  It combines physical exercise with Dr. Dukan's recommendations to dip into cold waters! Cold water has an unusual effect on the lower body.  Although fat may look the same all over, it’s not.  Some fat, especially in legs, is chemically stubborn.  To get your stubborn fat to release fat, we need to blast it with neurotransmitters and hormones like adrenaline and nor-adrenaline and cold bathing boosts both.  Even if you can’t take the full cold bathing experience, it’s worth getting your legs cold.  Legs contain a large number of cold receptors, so even just exposing them helps.

5. Design your own hotel room workout. All you need to pack is some lightweight, cheap equipment: resistance bands, a jump rope and a sticky mat. Most bands will come with illustrated exercises. You can also do push-ups, crunches, lunges, squats and triceps dips on a chair. Bring workout DVDs to play on your laptop or log in to your Slimming Apartment to access your exercises from the web.

Bonus Tip: Use caffeinated creams or sprays during air travel or on hot humid days--they will prevent you from getting puffy and swollen!

Being healthy is a lifestyle—follow these tips and you will return home with plenty of memories & no extra pounds.
